Developing the Community of Lautaro, Chile

Serving the Mapuche People - Since beginning the work with the indigenous people group called the Mapuche of Chile, the church continues to grow through the multiplication of cell groups in the urban sector as well as in the rural areas. Workers disciple new believers and minister to families through these cell groups, which meet weekly, in the community to minister to the spiritual needs of the people. Chilean workers also train indigenous leaders in each community to develop regional projects, ranging from creating small businesses to helping build houses and wells for the most needy of these communities.

The Vision in Lautaro

To help develop the people in this region, IberoAmerican Ministries (IAM) is building a Christian Center of Integrated Development (CCID) in Lautaro to help residents come to know Christ through an integral approach to ministry. This Center assists individuals in reaching their educational potential and provides support in the community by helping their families overcome the cycle of poverty while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. The goal is to establish the church and this Center by coming alongside the people of Lautaro so that they can sustain themselves spiritually, emotionally, and financially while training them to make disciples of all nations.

Reaching the people is the primary goal.

Constructing a Christian Center
With the financial help of foreign churches as well as the national church, IAM purchased a 40,000 -square-meter piece of property. Several projects are being built in phases on this property. These projects include the following:

  • Vocational training center
  • School with an auditorium and classrooms
  • Boarding home for rural students
  • Recreation center and community park
  • Gymnasium
  • Health center
  • Agricultural development projects
  • School of missions

Future construction includes the school and dorm rooms.

The first phase, which includes a gymnasium and agricultural development, is complete (pictured in the first image above). We recently entered the second phase, which includes the school and boarding home for rural students.

Financing the Vision: $100,000
In the second phase, IAM is building the school, which will serve students in pre-kinder through grade 12. The high school will include a vocational training program that is linked to an industrial park with more than 400 businesses across from the property, and is being developed in the community. The local church counts on support from members, outside churches (national and international), state subsidies, and grants to continue this vision. The goal of this project is to ensure that it becomes self-financing through the efforts of those working within the Center. After the infrastructure is finished, financing will be accomplished through tuition, state, and municipal funding, as well as educational grants. To generate more resources, IAM is considering building storefronts that commercial businesses can rent, as well as growing and selling agricultural products. The estimated cost of the second phase is $100,000.
